Original article: Puerto Varas con zona VIP: DGAC prohíbe drones a 1 km del fundo donde vacaciona Kast
In Puerto Varas, the elected president José Kast is surrounded—literally—by an air exclusion perimeter. A resolution from the General Directorate of Civil Aviation (DGAC) has imposed a drone ban in Puerto Varas within a radius of one kilometer around the Fundo Santa Mónica, where the president-elect is on vacation.
This measure delineates an area where remotely piloted aircraft (RPA) are not permitted to operate around the property. According to reports from Radio Bío Bío, this security precaution was requested through a letter from the Palace Guard Group, aimed at establishing an exclusion zone for safety reasons.
Kast arrived in the area with his wife, María Pía Adriasola, for a brief respite ahead of the official transition set for March 11. Available information suggests that their stay in Puerto Varas will extend at least until February 17.
Drone Ban in Puerto Varas: One Kilometer Radius and Road Security
The estate where Kast is staying is not barren: several constructions line the roadside, and the interior vegetation serves as a natural curtain, obstructing views of the main house from the outside. The property also features storage facilities, additional housing, and other structures located on higher ground.
Simultaneously, the area remains under surveillance. Carabineros are patrolling the route connecting Puerto Varas to Ensenada and monitoring vehicles stopping in front of the property.
What the DGAC Can Do
The DGAC is the authority regulating drone operations in Chile and can designate restricted areas for security reasons, particularly concerning authorities. In this case, the resolution establishes a radius of one kilometer around the Fundo Santa Mónica, effectively limiting RPA usage in the area during the president-elect’s stay in Puerto Varas.
