Senator Beatriz Sánchez Challenges Women’s Undersecretary Over Prodemu Crisis Denial El Ciudadano

Original article: «Es absolutamente falso»: Senadora Beatriz Sánchez desmintió a subsecretaria de la Mujer que dijo «no tener información» sobre compleja situación en Prodemu

Senator Beatriz Sánchez (FA) refuted statements made by Women’s Undersecretary, Daniela Castro (shown in the photo), who claimed during a formal session of the Senate’s Women and Gender Equality Commission that she had «no information» regarding the complex situation at Prodemu.

After denouncing the circumstances during the same session, Sánchez later shared a video on her social media platforms criticizing the undersecretary’s response: «Prodemu is facing a complicated situation, and in light of this, the undersecretary of Women, invited to the Senate Women’s Commission, attempts to pass false information as true,» Sánchez asserted.

«She stated that they had no information concerning the current status of Prodemu, including delays in salary payments. That is false,» declared the legislator, citing a publication from the Prodemu Union dated February 26, which details a meeting where this issue was discussed.

In that meeting, Senator Beatriz Sánchez noted that «the former Minister of Women, Antonia Orellana, along with the chief advisor to the current minister, Tatiana De León, were present with the entire Prodemu Union to understand the issues faced by the employees of that agency.»

«Thus, to publicly claim in a Senate session that they had no information about the current situation is truly false,» added the leftist legislator.

«It is not possible to move forward with that logic, so we invite an advancement in understanding rather than spreading misinformation,» concluded Beatriz Sánchez.

What’s Happening at Prodemu?

As reported by El Ciudadano a few days ago, the Foundation for the Promotion and Development of Women (Prodemu) is currently experiencing a complicated financial deficit situation.

In an interview with our outlet, Fabiola Cayla, president of the Prodemu Union, stated that the crisis the foundation is facing has direct and concrete effects on its employees, generating uncertainty around the job stability of over 460 workers.

Additionally, Cayla warned that the situation «puts the continuity of workshops, territorial coverage, and training processes at risk, particularly affecting the most vulnerable women in the country, who are the target audience of the Foundation and rely on these spaces to advance in their economic autonomy.»
